Reno Resource # 1- Home Measurement Tools
If you want a successful renovation, you need to know what you have. We have Key architectural tools that are used by architects and builders all over North America. Built to help you record the hard data about the existing conditions of your house, these essentials will get you moving on properly renovating your house.
Having the proper tools can speed up the usability of this guide. I use these tools when on site visits to speed up the time it takes me to measure and document houses for renovation feasibility studies. You can use them to capture the same important data, you may have some of these tools already so just review their functionality with the functionality of the tools on offer. I do receive an affiliate commission from Amazon if you purchase through these links, which I appreciate.
The best tool is the Basic Tape Measure
Tool 1- Regular Tape Measure
Having a tape measure is part of owning a house, often though the ones we have aren’t well constructed. Remember that the end tab or hook is supposed to be loose.
Tool 2- 200’-0” Tape Measure
Having the longer tape measure helps with keeping up with the bigger lengths that sometimes you need to record for setbacks, frontage requirements, and lot dimensions. The metal tape measure doesn’t stretch (distort the length) as much as the plastic ones do.
This measures quickly.
Tool 3- Laser Measuring Device
I use this all the time to quickly dimension my rooms. The accuracy and speed make the investment with it. This is a standard kit item I have with me all the time.
